Calling Out To All Ghostbusters Fans: Upcoming Film Needs Your Contribution!

It's probably no mystery to you that I’m a pretty big Ghostbusters fan. You might have seen a selfie of me with the StayPuft that was breaking out of the concourse in Waterloo Station ahead of last year’s reboot (which surprisingly didn’t cause any mass hysteria amongst commuters), as well as one of me in the London Film and Comic Con the year before with Dana Barrett herself (okay, there is no Dana – only Sigourney Weaver). This was followed by some in Torquay shortly after at the Optimus Comic Con, where I had the pleasure of meeting many more stars from the original films: Mark Bryan Wilson (Slimer and the Librarian Ghost), Robin Shelby (Ghostbusters II’s Slimer and now the reboot’s Mrs Slimer), Billy Bryan (the StayPuft Marshmallow Man) and Ghostbuster himself Ernie Hudson (Winston Zeddemore).

The Optimus event – which also included a StayPuft of its own (though far more well-behaved than Waterloo’s) was partly organised by brother and sister, Anthony and Claire Bueno, filmmaker and film presenter, respectively, where Claire also ran and hosted a Q&A session with all the stars. They were both also present at the MCM Birmingham Comic Con in November last year, where they released an exclusive 12-minute preview to an eager audience for their upcoming film, “Cleanin’ Up The Town: Remembering Ghostbusters”. It's an epic documentary nearly ten years in the making that focuses on the creation of both the iconic films as well as the phenomena that has transcended them, now long-since embedded within modern pop culture. Their incredible journey to bring this film to life takes us back some fourteen years, when Anthony and Claire, both with a background in IT, decided to undertake media courses which saw them on the paths they’re on today – and they’ve never looked back. Creating this film has seen them travel all over the States where they’ve interviewed over seventy cast and crew members from the original films, including the late greats, Michael C. Gross (creator of the iconic logo), David Margulies (Mayor Lenny), Alice Drummond (the spooked librarian of the same name) and Harold Ramis (Egon Spengler), as well as Ray Stantz himself, Dan Aykroyd, and director Ivan Reitman, to name but a few. This alone illustrates just how far this film has taken them, and also how excited we should all be about it.

Now, this huge project – one which has been undeniably-epic in the making – is nearly finished. Last year the team (which also includes Anthony Zart – Art Director, Derek Osborn – Archive Producer; Motion Graphics Editor, J-Mi & Midi- D – Music Department, and Paul Smith – Publicist) decided to split the documentary into two parts to cover each film, so that they could make the story more complete and make it the best it can possibly be (and perhaps so as to not cross the streams).

Some members of the team will also be making an appearance at the For the Love of Sci-Fi Comic Convention in Manchester, UK, on the weekend of December 2nd & 3rd, where they'll be doing a presentation on the film.
